Weeknote #4, it’ll leave you asking for more.

I’m break things out a bit into a couple more categories that make sense.

Media Notes

  • I finished reading John Green’s Everything is Tuberculosis. It’s a great read and will infuriate you even more about the inequities in global health care. I started reading Natsume Sōseki’s Kusamakura. I loved Sanshiro and The Gate and so far I’m really enjoying the gentle poetic nature of this one as well.
  • Music recs
    • Some music (videos) that really drew me in (gotta give props to the YouTube algorithm for these discoveries): Igorrr’s “Blastbeat Falafel,” “Very Noise,” “ADHD,” (AI-generated, but it feels appropriate, somehow?), and “My Chicken’s Symphony.” Really intriguing blends of drum-n-bass, classical, death metal, and occasionally, a chicken playing a toy piano.
    • Bill McClintock mashed up Stryper, AC/DC, KISS, and many others in this fantastic video.
    • Public Enemy released a new album on Bandcamp today titled Black Sky Over the Projects: Apartment 2025 and it is a lot of fun. “Messy Hens” is vintage Flav over heavy Bomb Squad-sounding beats, Chuck talks about PE being in their mid-60s (!!!) on “Ageism” and “Sexagenarian,” and, in general, the album hits way harder than it you might expect for a pair of guys that have been at this since the mid-80s.

Life Notes

  • I renewed my daughter’s domain through 2034 today. She’ll be nearly 30 then.
  • Like much of the country, we had five days of stupid hot weather this week. Is it autumn yet?
