Tech

  • Hosted at micro.blog, which runs Hugo to generate a static site
  • Joplin and Notepad++ for writing
  • “Design,” if you can call it that, is by me with assorted cut-and-paste-and-adjust CSS.
  • Use of AI (using “AI” in that vague and general way it’s being used everywhere):
    • All original written content is mine and is not generated or edited by AI.
    • I’ve used occasional help from AI coding tools for small bits here and there (I feel the need to apologize for this even though I check the code before deploying, etc.)
    • Audio may have been transcribed by AI but I’ve cleaned up and corrected the results because, woo boy, lotsa mistakes.

History

  • My personal web site first launched in late 1994, my freshman year of college. (Yes, that’s over 30 years ago.)
  • My domain, laze.net, soft launched in late 1997 and officially launched on January 1, 1998.
  • My first blog post (of sorts) was on April 20, 1998.
  • The current version of this site launched on August 23, 2024.

Principals

  • First and foremost, this site is whatever I feel like it being.
  • People can visit, or not (and not many do!). This is a project without a goal other than existing.
  • I follow the general approach of and philosophy behind the IndieWeb, Small Web, and Slow Web movements.
  • There is a simple digital garden, inspired by Maggie Appleton.
  • I aim to keep everything very simple from the management perspective.
  • Comments are fine on blogs, but I don’t feel like moderating so I don’t have them. I would rather hear from you directly.
  • Ads? Hah.

Privacy

  • I use Umami, a privacy-forward analytics tool. I don’t need to track who’s coming to my site. But every so often, I like to know roughly how many of you knuckleheads are here and who is sending you.
